Hair trends from matrix stylist!

Patrick McIvor, Matrix artistic director and owner of patrick mcivor color studio, expects to see a shift to high-impact, low maintenance haircolor for fall/winter 2011/12.

“People live at such a high speed these days, so providing colors that have an attractive balance between time for the color application and frequency of maintenance will be key factors in the colors women want for fall.  Today, there has to be a two week grace period in refreshing color, women want and need more options for service times and frequency, and they still want impactful color,” explains McIvor.

Thanks to many like Emma Watson and Michelle Williams, hair is getting shorter.  And with shorter hair comes more risk, so high impact colors, unnatural accents and strategically placed statement colors will be popular on all hair lengths.  Think ends lights, underlying colors, defused color placement, mini-lifts and demi-permanent color panels.  Even temporary color accents with feathers and wefts will be in style.

Hot Fall Colors

Blondes: More glamorous, no longer just a head of highlights – return of blonde on blonde and double process blondes (Reece Witherspoon, Michelle Williams, Lady Gaga).

Brunette: Move from dark and solid to dark with texture (Kate Middleton, Rachel Bilson, Olivia Wilde, Selena Gomez).

Red: The hot new it color due to fade-proof reds with new advances in technology in professional colors like Matrix Color Sync (crème demi-color) and SOCOLOR (permanent cream) formulated with HD (high def) Color Technology Red/Copper for longer lasting, more vibrant reds and coppers.  (Ariana Grande, Rihanna, JoAnna Garcia, Drew Barrymore, Scarlet Johansson).
